YOU have to wonder what is in the minds of council officials, they certainly don’t seem to work like the same as other people’s.
Last week workers, we assume to be from the county council, came and removed all the bollards down the village in Long Bredy.
Admittedly there were one or two that had fallen victim to either careless drivers or too wet soil, but why did they take the ones still left standing away?
I don’t suppose it will take long for impatient drivers to take advantage and drive on the verge, which in places is already in danger of collapsing into the village stream.
Also in another interesting development a bunch of workers came last Sunday to try and sort out the water that has been flowing from what looks like a British Telecom drain cover.
They came on a Sunday and put barriers around it then seemed to disappear for Christmas.
It will be interesting to see what happens next as this water has been flowing down the road for years.
In what might very well be an apocryphal tale it is alleged by villagers that the matter hasn’t ever been addressed because BT think it is Wessex Water’s problem to fix and Wessex Water thinks the telecom company should fix it.
Hence villagers and passing motorists have been known to enjoy a spot of winter skating when the weather is more akin to its seasonal norm.
Though what it will do to new fibre optic cables just laid might spur one of the utility companies to action.
