SAD though it is, Weymouth no longer has an office of tourism.
Until last week, there was a facility in St Thomas St located in the former bakery premises. The sign recently placed on the door, announces there will be no more trading. Why, is not for me to question.
It seems to be generally accepted that W&PBC cannot fund such a facility however, there is something at the back of my mind that could work, given they were prepared.
In a perfect world, all businesses in town benefit from tourism.
It is my understanding that all businesses in town pay a levy to BID. Dare I say it, but would it be something BID could under- take?
If they occupied one of the empty premises and sought staff, at least it might show BID in a favourably good light.
I use those words, because not many weeks pass by, that someone appears to ‘have a go’ at BID.
Again I don’t know why, but the impression given from reading reports, is that the words used tend to be along the lines of ‘what do we get in return for our annual fee’.
If BID exists to promote the town to visitors, surely an Information Centre has to go hand-in-hand?
