I AM not surprised that people are shocked at proposals (Echo, July 6) to move the post office in Maud Road, Dorchester, to Poundbury – which already has a post office.

The Post Office appears to have lost its marbles. For they closed a post office in Monmouth Road, Dorchester, a few years ago. Many people in the Manor Park area of the town could walk to the Monmouth Road post office. When it closed we all had to travel to Maud Road in Victoria Park which for most of us means going by car or bike as it is just a league too far to walk.

Now we get this incredible news. Does the Post Office know where Poundbury is? It is yonks from Manor Park and Victoria Park.

Look, why doesn’t the Post Office close all post offices in West Dorset and get us to use one at say Poole? It sounds a crazy idea but no more crazy than to keep closing post offices which serve local people in local communities.

For the Post Office spokeswoman to say “We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office (at Poundbury) at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs” is perplexing.

For sure it doesn’t help customers in Manor Park and Victoria Park.

I would encourage everyone who used to use the old Monmouth Road post office and now use Maud Road to object to the move to Poundbury.

I think the commercial world is going mad.
