AS if last year’s EU Referendum, with its blatant lies, under 75% ballot of electors and denial of voting rights to 17-year-olds most likely to suffer the long term consequences of Brexit, wasn’t bad enough, the unelected Theresa May has now added insult to injury by her headlong dash for a ‘clean/hard’ exit- a sop to the Eurosceptic right of the Tory party.

Leaving the single market was never on the ballot paper last June.

Worryingly Mrs May has completely failed to give British nationals working in mainland Europe and EU nationals settled in Britain anything like adequate reassurance for a post Brexit future.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan quite rightly fears for the ‘catastrophic’ effects on the economy and jobs.

Nicola Sturgeon has serious doubts that Scotland will tolerate living in a hard Brexit Britain.

Northern Ireland needs the border with Eire to continue to stay ‘open’.

Many in the Labour party want it to commit to a clear anti-Brexit line and not pander to their fears of losing seats to UKIP in their Northern and Midland heartlands.

There is a growing groundswell of cross party MPs who are determined to fight ‘hard Brexit’.

At long last Remainers are prepared to fight this ideologically hard right Tory government and this ‘little Englander’ and ignorant UKIP propelling this country into isolation on the margins of Europe.

But MPs can’t win this battle on their own.

It requires a hard-fought grassroots campaign including Remainers coming together en masse.

To date Open Britain haven’t begun to do it - their ineffectiveness an embarrassing carry over from the Remain campaign.

Time for them to move over for a new more determined group who will fight.
