I WAS going to say I was astounded at the decision of IPACA to axe subjects half way through the two-year GCSE course.

I could have said I was surprised at the pathetic and inexcusable response from the principal Gary Spracklen or the deafening silence of the new academy sponsor.

However, anyone who has watched this disgraceful situation unfold knows that this is all we can expect from the people behind this shambolic so-called ‘academy’.

Again, the powers-to-be have failed to listen to the genuine concerns of parents as they pursued their own misguided vision for education on the island.

They have failed, and spectacularly so, and yet it seems no one is being held to account.

Dorset County Council has also played a pivotal role in the setting up and subsequent failures but are now happy to wash their hands of the whole sorry mess.

And they tell parents and students that detractors are misrepresenting their stance and distorting the truth. How so, Mr Spracklen?

Has everyone been wrong in highlighting the failure to deliver the shining new school that was promised, the abysmal Ofsted, the sudden departures of head teachers, the decision for one academy to give up on the school, the announcement that it is facing a financial disaster and teachers may have to be made redundant and the latest disgraceful decision on GCSEs?

Both I and my son are tired of the excuses.

He sincerely wishes he had changed school several years ago and I feel guilty for not ensuring that happened. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and they failed us.

My only concern is for my son’s future and he has been let down, along with many, many others.

Have the courage to stand up and be counted for once and stop blaming others. The siege mentality is unacceptable.
