LETTER: We should accept result of EU referendum

However, I think the other side of the coin should be seen too.

Mr Denton-White almost seems to imply that it is a scientific fact that this great country of ours is better off in that self-serving club, the EU. Of course I, one of the majority in this country, believe nothing could be further from the truth. Hawking was giving his opinion, as he was entitled too.

By the way, Switzerland and Greenland for example, do very well out of it, to name just two, God bless them. A check on the internet will prove that not even all of the scientific world was one hundred per cent enamoured of the views of Professor Hawking, scientific or not, for one thing he was an atheist, as I say, he has the right to be one and express that opinion.

I believe it is probable that he will already have discovered he was wrong on that one and time will, in my opinion, prove him just as wrong about the daft notion that this country undemocratically belongs in the EU. We did very well in this world up until 1973 when we were taken into what was merely a ‘Common Market’ without consultation by Edward Heath, and I am sure we shall continue to do well after we leave. If you make what people want at a price they like you will sell it, no matter which club you are in, the Japanese know that but nearly half the British are taking far too long to ‘cotton on’.

Mr Denton-White and his ilk would do well to drag themselves into 2018, realise the result of the referendum is the result, end of, and the opinions of deceased professors change nothing, and not start working to make this country as good as it’s possible to make it in what will be undoubtedly a bright and prosperous future. Failing that perhaps he should put his efforts into keeping France, the Netherlands, or Italy in the EU.

None of them are quite as certain as Professor Hawkins that membership of the EU is a good thing, it seems.
