In answer to Jane Stokes’s letter about the decline of Weymouth’s town centre, I am really getting annoyed with people slating off our town.

All seaside towns and London are on the decline, but Weymouth is still holding its own.

The town centre has no less than TEN clothes shops and two big stores Debenhams and M & S for a start.

We have excellent restaurants, including a lovely Thai and Chinese and Italian to eat in, our pubs old and new serve excellent food. St Alban’s St (Flag St ) is a joy to walk through again with cafes and gift shops and I must not forget Bibi’s, a wonderful clothes and shoe shop.

So in total that’s eleven clothes shops, so don’t tell me there’s nothing in the town.

A few hanging baskets of flowers (it’s been done before ) would not go amiss and they would be out of reach from troublesome teenagers.

Whenever I walk through town I do not find it to dirty or unkempt.

We now have solved the problem of beggars with the bus.

Also there will be more police patrols to curb drinkers.

I know our toilets need improving but we have been promised a new block of toilets on the seafront by next July I will hold our council to that.

As for the White Horse I agree it needs cleaning up, this is done by volunteers, so come on everyone make a start.

Weymouth welcomes you.
