With quite a few of your letters recently voicing concern at the sad and unfortunate decline of dear old Weymouth, I would add the recent following experience.

Last week, I had the pleasure of two dear friends, here on holiday from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Coinciding with perfect weather we enjoyed three days of drives into the beautiful surrounding Dorset countryside and along the Jurassic coastline.

On the second evening of their stay, they took a walk around the harbour and finished up having a drink in one of the many quayside pubs.

On finding somewhere to sit, their attention was immediately drawn to a very drunk woman who was staggering around the bar and behaving badly.

In addition, a rather unpleasant and aggressive man was shouting and hurling obscene language at the assorted patrons. After a short while the staff called the police, who duly arrived to sort out the offenders.

With the summer season about to commence, this behaviour appears to be the norm most of the time.

Weymouth is a lovely seaside town - a pity about some of the people...
