An alternative view to Richard Drax MP’s “Fortunate to have the Royals”.

Where does the concept of ‘monarchy’/’royalty’ fit into a democracy or healthier/ more equal society?

• Throughout history the monarchy has always distanced itself from ‘normal society’.

• They were the original war-mongers, land-grabbers and accumulators of personal wealth, at the expense of the poor, our heritage and the environment. And so it continues, through ‘inheritance’, with their idolising, influential flock (the ‘aristocracy’ and ‘landed-gentry’), who have ‘grabbed’ most of our precious land, but are content to watch it decimated for ‘privilege’ and ‘profit’, at the expense of all.

• They even caused a Civil War and all its devastation, through their uncaring, belligerent attitude.

• They have constantly sucked money out of public funds to ‘feather’ their many nests.

In short, the monarchy is an out-dated, unhealthy, divisive institution, and the now ‘soap-opera’ style of projection is just a re-invention to hang on.

Perhaps instead of this jingoistic clap-trap – which seems to be a feature of Mr. Drax’s column – he should use the platform more wisely, to explain any efforts he is working on to make our society healthier and more equal.

If he needs any help, I can suggest many topics. Unfortunately, I don’t believe he understands the concepts of fostering health and equality, nearly half as much as his devotion to ‘guarding’ the monarchy, so my efforts might just fall on deaf ears!
