Before it’s too late, may I, as a native of Weymouth, add my voice to the Weymouth lights debate?

This could be our last chance to make a great decision, rather than allow ourselves to be pressured down certain routes and make a hard decision based on ‘economic reasons’ or ‘time for a change’.

I will return to the economic issue later, but in respect of ‘time for a change’, just remember those disastrous laser lights.

Weymouth is acknowledged as one of the loveliest seafronts in Britain, with its elegant backdrop of Georgian terraces, and the majesty of the Jurassic Coast framing the bay.

It does not need the gimmick of flashing, jumping lights which could also present a health hazard to some.

Many residents can recall the necklace of coloured ‘fairy’ lights all along the Esplanade.

These were reflected in the waters of the bay and made Weymouth seafront a truly beautiful picture from any viewpoint. For residents and visitors coming in to Weymouth via the Ridgeway, or by sea, the first glimpse of the lights of our town was a breath aking and welcoming sight.

Why not have a new diamond necklace of lights along the seafront made up of white LED lights, which would make Weymouth beautiful again.

To return to the ‘economic reasons’ issue, LED lights are cheaper to run and last for years. At the recent presentation at Weymouth library, I was informed that it would cost more to put up the extra posts to hold a string of lights.

Surely, not that many additional posts are needed?

Can’t we, as residents of Weymouth, ‘crowd fund’ to make our dream possible and make Weymouth a shining example for other resorts?
