I am saddened, to read of the ongoing debate surrounding the wooden beach huts at Greenhill, or rather just 25 of the 80 plus there.

I have used Greenhill beach for over 40 years and have had a wooden beach hut there for over 20 of them.

The problem of anti-social behaviour has always been there, this is nothing new. Whilst I acknowledge last year was particularly bad, to remove the beach huts in response would be easy, but please be in no doubt, the problem of poor antisocial behaviour will still exist, whether the beach huts are there or not, potentially still in the same area, as people love the beach!

To remove these huts is to remove part of the fabric and image of Weymouth as a seaside town, to take away the delight of the families using them, many of whom are our visitors.

I feel strongly that we as a community should be managing this and coming together. The residents, the police, the councillors, the hut owners, hut users and any other interested parties, and shame on us if we don’t.
