VALLEY Wives met last Friday and enjoyed an illustrated talk on Windsor. Previously they had a talk by a member of the Magic Circle. That was on a cold evening in December, when it was tempting to just remain indoors, but everyone was glad that they went, as the talk with demonstrations was totally fascinating. Given by ex-bank manager David Ball, who gained admittance to the Magic Circle in an audition at the age of 18, he held them humorously spellbound and participating in his magic.

THE Good Companions had a talk on the History of Hughenden last Thursday. They are a very cheerful, welcoming group and they value their chats and camaraderie together. Pam Herman won the best-embroidered-tablecloth prize. I gave the talk and sincerely hope that no-one was bored.

THE Reverend Simon Cronk will have his institution and induction service as Vicar of Hughenden on Wednesday, January 16, at 7.30pm. The Right Reverend Mike Hill, Bishop of Buckingham and the Venerable David Goldie, Archdeacon of Buckingham, will take the service.

NO-ONE will have forgotten the floods and the pollution of a year ago. Some are even still suffering. You remember how the stream was flowing from as high up the valley as the top end of Warrendene Road. Now you see that it has dried up at the bottom of Cryers Hill, but the springs just before Church Farm are still flowing well and the stream supports an abundance of wildlife, including many fresh water shrimps.
