CLA Offers Training for Equine and Livestock Transporters
New rules that come into force next month will mean anybody transporting horses - or other livestock - around the country will need to hold a special certificate.
The CLA, the rural economy experts, says the regulations will affect many industries that use road vehicles for transporting farm animals, poultry or horses. From January 5th transporters or attendants will need to hold a certificate of competence issued by an independent body nominated by DEFRA. The CLA has responded by organising a series of New Year seminars explaining the training requirements of the new regulations and how they will affect individuals and businesses.
The CLA has also called in its own equine experts who will provide updates on issues such as contracts for sale, liabilities for accidents; livery and grazing agreements; planning and equine diversification. The seminars will also look at the issue of equine access to the countryside and representatives from the Toll Rides (Off Road) Trust will explain the Toll Ride system and how it can benefit both landowners and riders.
"This seminar is a must for farmers; livestock hauliers; stud farms; racing yards; riding stables; livery yards and those competing professionally. The Welfare of Animals during Transport Regulations come into force on 5th January and they form one section of our three part seminar. For non-equine animals these regulations come into force later because of the movement restrictions in place at present and we are happy to accommodate people who are interested in just that section of the seminar," said CLA event manager, Sarah Fern.
The CLA is hosting two seminars, one on 29th January at Hartham Park, Corsham, Wiltshire, and one on 30th January at the Westberry Hotel, Bodmin, Cornwall at a cost of £13.50.
As a follow up for equestrian establishments the CLA is offering training sessions across the South West run by Haddon Training which will equip people with the necessary qualifications.
