Charity Point-to-Point breaks all records!
The organisers of the Jackson Stops & Staff/Countryside Alliance Point-to-Point at Badbury Rings on Sunday 24th February were delighted with the record crowds attending what has now become the biggest Point to Point on the South coast.
Drawing from five counties, and a large contingent from Cirencester, the weather stayed dry and the course remained good to firm' to ensure some memorable racing for the 6,000 people who attended.
This year the organisers teamed up with local disabled childrens' charity Coping with Chaos', based in West Moors, Ferndown, who were overwhelmed by the generosity of the event. Chief Executive Liz Morris commented afterwards, "The response to our staff and kids who were circulating during the day was phenomenal. As a voluntary organisation without central funding this event has played a significant part in ensuring that we are able to continue providing the unique service to local disabled kids and their parents. Thank you Countryside Alliance."
As well as the Racing the event also showcased local Dorset produce, ran demonstrations of the popular "Game to Eat" campaign, entertained race goers with Terrier and Ferret Racing, witnessed over 100 children trying out Beagling down the home straight of the race course and thrilled families with the finale of The Black Knights Jousting, which featured great sport and television Racing commentator Alice Fox-Pitt as the Damsel in distress!
Point-to-Point Committee and Dorset County Chairman for the CA James Johnsen added "This was always going to be a point-to-point with a difference, but we never imagined that we could have caught the imagination of so many local people. Today has proved that not only has the Countryside Alliance developed a massively broadened base of supporters, but it is also capable of helping others as well".
