Blind Betty defies odds with triplets

| TREBLE CHANCE: Minette Walters with one of the lamb triplets |
A BLIND ewe owned by author Minette Walters has defied the odds in a heroic story worthy of the world of fiction.
Brave Betty was given little chance by friends of Mrs Walters, but she and her husband Alec refused to abandon her and have now been rewarded with a trio of baby lambs.
Mrs Walters said: "She was completely blind and everyone told us we were mad to keep her, that we should just get rid of her.
"But we kept her and she's just produced three lambs.
"When she delivered them she had to be led from the field to get her into the barn. We're so glad we didn't get rid of her and we're so proud of her producing triplets."
Mr Walters added: "All three seem to be doing really well. Mum has been put out in the field and she seems fine."
Mr Walters said that black-headed Betty was named after famous opera singer Elisabeth Shwarzkopf, as translated it means black head'.
He added: "I don't usually name them."
