TOP-OF-THE-TABLE TUSSLE: Weymouth Cougars attack the Raiders
Under-12 Division One
WEYMOUTH COUGARS 2 Dorchester RAIDERS 1
WEYMOUTH Cougars maintained their 100 per cent record by inflicting a first defeat on title rivals Dorchester Raiders in a dramatic finale at the Marsh.
The first half saw plenty of action at each end of the field with neither side managing to break down the other’s defence.
Weymouth’s backline of Will Walden, Toby Brown, Danny Cleaver and Ben Robertson, couple with some fine saves from in-form keeper Loui Wilkinson, ensured it remained goalless going into the break.
The second half continued in much the same way. The Raiders had plenty of chances with one hitting the crossbar and another narrowly evading a post.
Eventually the visitors drew first blood with only six minutes left on the clock.
But a rapid response from the Cougars saw Ethan Gear cross into a congested penalty area, where Sam Croucher made no mistake in finding the target.
Spurred on by the equaliser, the Cougars went in search of a late winner, which they got through Harry Falcus.
A determined Dorchester continued to battle but the final whistle saw the Cougars remain in pole position.
