Dorchester Town were last night expected to complete the signing of AFC Bournemouth youngster Jordan Chiedozie on a month’s loan.

The 18-year-old striker, son of ex-Tottenham star John Chiedozie, was due to train with the Magpies yesterday evening before putting pen to paper on a short-term deal.

And should the necessary paperwork be processed in time, the teenager could make his county town debut in tomorrow’s home clash with Tonbridge Angels (3pm).

Magpies’ manager Phil Simkin said: “He is not cup-tied so that is a bonus and he will be available for the game with Plymouth.

“I haven’t seen him play personally but I have spoken to several people that have. He is strong, quick, a good goalscorer and they rate him highly at Bournemouth.”

This time last year, Dorchester were preparing to welcome Tonbridge to the Avenue for Simkin’s first match in temporary charge – following the dismissal of former boss Ashley Vickers.

The match ended 3-1 in the Magpies’ favour and since that day, the county town outfit have gone from strength to strength and are now looking forward to a televised FA Cup tie with Plymouth Argyle.

Simkin added: “It is strange that we are playing Tonbridge on exactly the same weekend and it seems like a lot longer than a year ago to be honest.

“A lot has happened since then, the club has changed beyond recognition and not all down to me.

“I do remember us playing really well that day, as well as Ben Dickenson slamming one in from about 30 yards.”

With the club and its supporters in a state of euphoria ahead of next weekend’s visit of the Npower League Two Pilgrims, Simkin has warned his players to keep their eye on the ball.

He said: “Everyone is flying but I’m trying to keep people’s feet on the ground and remind them that we have got a league match tomorrow and we need to pick up some points.

“They have not had the best of starts but they have some good players and a good manager in Tommy Warrilow, who I know well.

“I’m sure he will be telling his players that we won’t be focused and that they can come here and take advantage.

“We have got to deal with tomorrow first. That comes before the cup game and is therefore the most important game.

“The longer time goes on, the more you feel that we have a chance of staying in the mix, so we can’t afford to take our eye off the ball.”

Nathan Walker (hamstring) and Sam Malsom (ankle) remain doubtful, Jamie Reid is available for the last time before returning to parent club Exeter City while Jamie Symes, who narrowly avoided a broken leg last weekend, could feature.

Simkin added: “If there is any doubt about Nathan then he won’t play. He trained okay on Tuesday night but he would play on one leg if we let him, so we will keep an eye on the situation.

“It’s unlikely Sam will be available and he may be a doubt for the cup game as well – I can’t say for sure.

“Jamie came through Wednesday night’s reserve match okay, which was quite a surprise, and he will be in contention, along with a few others.”
