BRENDON King cut straight to the chase following Saturday’s shock exit from the FA Trophy by admitting his side’s woeful performance was “beyond belief”.

Weymouth were a shadow of the team that beat Hitchin Town the previous weekend and after taking the lead through Mark Ford, they eventually got their comeuppance as lower-league Shortwood United went on to record an unexpected 2-1 victory.

Commenting on his side’s showing at the Bob Lucas Stadium, King told Echosport: “All week we talked about mindset and the importance of approaching the game in the right way yet still some of them went out there thinking they had a god given right to win and it cost us.

“It doesn’t matter what level you play at and who the opposition are, if you are not willing to put in the effort and commitment there is every chance you are going to get caught out.

“Individually and collectively we were not good enough. Eight or nine of the lads were off the boil and Shortwood thoroughly deserved their victory.”

King went on to add: “When you give sides like that a sniff and don’t kill the game off, the likelihood is that at some point they are going to cause you problems and that is exactly what happened.

“I can take players playing poorly because everyone has off days but what I cannot accept is a lack of passion and desire.

“Those two things are the very least I expect from my players and I didn’t get that on Saturday.

“That is disappointing and I expect every single one of them to go away now and take a long, hard look at themselves.”

The Terras are back in action tomorrow night when they entertain Hamworthy Recreation in the second round of the Dorset Senior Cup (7.45pm).
