DANNY Green has been ruled out for the rest of the season just a week after putting pen to paper at the Avenue Stadium.
The ex-Truro City man made the perfect start to his Dorchester career by bagging two goals in the club’s FA Trophy victory at Didcot Town last Saturday, only to then suffer knee-ligament damage in the defeat at Havant & Waterlooville just three days later.
At the start of play yesterday, Phil Simkin was hopeful the injury was not as bad as first feared but following a scan later in the day he then received the news he desperately did not want to hear.
The Magpies’ boss said: “I just got a call saying Danny has had a scan and needs an operation.
“He has suffered knee-ligament damage and looks like he will now be out for the rest of the season.
“I am absolutely gutted and I am gutted for the boy.
“To be honest I don’t know what else to say.”
Following the victory at Didcot, Simkin told Echosport that he felt Green could become the best signing he has ever made and despite this shock development he sticks by that prediction.
He added: “We will be taking care of him and doing everything we can for him. And if there is anything we can do to speed up his recovery we will do it.
“It is a massive blow but he will recover from this and he will still be a great signing.”
The Magpies are set to travel to Maidenhead United tomorrow in Blue Square Bet South (3pm).
