WEYMOUTH LADIES 8 CHELTENHAM TOWN LADIES 1

WEYMOUTH earned their biggest South West Premier Division victory as they simply outclassed Cheltenham in all departments.

Few could have predicted the outcome of the game, as the first 20 minutes of the first half at the Bob Lucas Stadium were reasonably even.

Weymouth skipper Rosie Sharpe then put the home side in front with a long-range strike, which dipped over the visiting keeper.

In a breathtaking 20-minute period, the Robins were left bewildered as further goals from Amy Wild (2), Jess Turk, Emma Acott, Bianca Randall and Sharpe, with her second, put Weymouth 7-0 up at the interval.

The passing, movement and finishing were a joy to behold and had the sizeable crowd applauding at every opportunity.

Cheltenham simply had no answer and were relieved to hear the half-time whistle, which gave them time to re-group.

It was always going to be difficult to repeat the first-half endeavours in the second period and this proved to be the case and Cheltenham performed admirably for the first 20 minutes and got their rewards with a well-taken goal.

This spurred Weymouth back into life and, despite utilising their full quota of substitutes, the home side took a firm grip and Turk added her second and Weymouth’s eighth goal with 15 minutes remaining.

Next up for Weymouth is a trip to Devon tomorrow when they visit Plymstock.
