DANNY Clay believes the Terras are more than capable of overcoming Cambridge City despite being without three key defenders.

The combative midfielder played a key role in last weekend’s 3-2 victory at St Albans City and is adamant that result could prove to be a “big turning point” in his side’s season.

Clay told Echosport: “Having no recognised centre-backs is far from ideal but we still have good players to fill in and there is no reason why we cannot carry on from where we left off last Saturday.

“Although we had a bit of luck with the penalty at St Albans City, I thought we deserved to come out on top and we can now take huge confidence from that and hopefully keep the momentum going.”

City lost 6-1 at MK Dons on Tues-day night in an FA Cup first round replay and Clay is hoping his side can cash in on a potential hangover. He added: “Cambridge are always a strong side and are always up there at the end of the season, but they did play a big game in midweek and hopefully we can take advantage of some tired legs.

“Scoring goals has not been a problem and if we can take our opportunities when they came along and stay nice and solid we will stand a great chance.

“They have one of the top goalscorers in the league in Craig Hammond who we will have to be aware of but having worked on a few things in training this week, there is no doubt we have a system and the personnel to cause them problems.”

Barry McConnell and Dan Smith will return for the Terras for this afternoon’s Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division clash but Kyle Critchell, Ed Palmer and Sam Poole are all banned.
