PHIL Simkin is calling for a change of mindset ahead of today’s trip to Maidenhead United (3pm).

The Dorchester Town boss has watched his side lose their last four on the road in Blue Square Bet South and is considering making changes for what promises to be another tough clash.

Maidenhead may have lost five of their last seven in all competitions but their home form so far this season has been good with six wins from nine.

Simkin told Echosport: “We have got to toughen up away from home there are no two ways about it.

“We want to get something from the game and it is possible there could be one or two changes within the squad.”

When asked what has been holding his players back away from home, Simkin added: “I think it is a mindset thing and being away from their comfort zone.

“At home we are pretty decent but it has been a struggle on the road.

“We coped at Didcot Town in the Trophy but to be honest the whole run up to the game at Havant & Waterlooville on Tues-day was just chaos and what happened didn’t really surprise me.

“Hopefully, things will be back to normal today and we can come away with a result.”

After his side’s extraordinary performance against Plymouth Argyle in the first round of the FA Cup, Simkin was hoping the same style of play would pay dividends on their travels but as yet it has failed to materialise.

He went on to say: “With the players we have available I found that is a good way to play but for whatever reason it has not quite worked out on the road.

“Defensively, we have not been quite so good on our travels and a couple of individuals, who you would not expect, do not seem to adapt away from home.

“I do know what the problem is and we have got to sort it out quickly ahead of some massive games coming up.”

The Magpies were hoping to add a new forward to their ranks ahead of tomorrow’s clash but the move now appears unlikely to come to fruition in time.

Simkin added: “A lot of work is going on in the background but it is probably not going to happen before tomorrow. If it doesn’t hopefully we can get it sorted next week.”

Danny Green will be the major absentee for Town this weekend after suffering a knee-ligament injury in the 4-0 defeat at Havant.

The county town outfit currently lie 13th in the table, one point above Maidenhead and just four adrift of the top three.
