TREVOR Senior is preparing for a second postponement in five days as Bridport’s wait for a run of home games continues to rumble on.

The Bees were supposed to host Bishop Sutton on Tuesday night but heavy rain put paid to that and it appears tomorrow’s fixture against Melksham could suffer the same fate.

The West Dorset outfit has played just seven games at St Mary’s Field so far this season despite being almost four months into the campaign.

Boss Senior told Echosport: “I went down the ground thinking it was going to be soft but it was absolutely covered in the water.

“There were massive puddles all over it and looking at the forecast I cannot see tomorrow’s game being on. In fact, I am almost certain it won’t be.

“It would be a big blow to lose two home games in a week. We have played 20 matches in all competitions so far this season and 13 of them have been away.

“If next Tuesday’s Dorset Senior Cup tie at Poole Town goes ahead that will then become 14 and to be honest it is just getting a bit ridiculous now.

“Having said that though, I would rather not play tomorrow if it’s going to ruin the pitch for the rest of the season as that is the last thing we want. Everyone is in a similar boat this weekend so we will just have to see how it works out.”

On the bright side, no game tomorrow would help ease Bridport’s injury woes.

Senior added: “All we can do is prepare as normal.

“We have been training on Colfox’s Astropitch, which has been a big help, and there has been some good news concerning Chris Clarke, who has played a bit of five-a-side now and has declared himself fit.

“The extra few days’ rest will also have helped Ryan Dovell who could now be back for Tuesday night but we will just have to wait and see.”

The Bees currently sit fourth-bottom in the Toolstation Western Premier Division, just one point adrift of Melksham having played three games more.
