JED Skilton led the way at the Sika Wood Duathlon in Wareham by taking first place in Tristar 2.

Sami Brown, a former Spanish dua-thlon champion, claimed the Tristar 3 title before Skilton continued his excellent form despite taking a tumble at the start.

Fresh from winning a bronze medal in the World Biathle Championships in Dubai, the youngster showed great mental strength to bounce back from that early setback and it was no surprise when he eventually took the win.

Lola Lopez edged girls’ Tristar 2 while Dylan Williams and Rachel Packard triumphed in Tristar 1.

Williams’ victory came after he took advantage of a mechanical failure to Ryan Symington’s bike, which left the latter with a run back to transition.

The guts and determination Symington showed to eventually complete the race was fantastic to see.

As for the adults, Nick Baugniet put in an amazing first run of 22.06mins to take the early lead but Tripurbeck members Justin Matthews and Ben Laing were soon in hot pursuit.

Lang tore up the bike course and moved a minute ahead before going on to claim the overall win.

Baugniet and Jane King won the veterans’ prizes while Helen Dyke prevailed in the ladies’ race ahead of Rachel Gurney.

The next duathlon in the woods will be in March and once again juniors and adults are more than welcome.
