STEVE Harwood has won the West Bay Angling Club’s Christmas Fayre for the second year running at West Bay.

Seven members took part in the competition. Most chose to fish East Beach and plenty of whiting were caught throughout the day and a couple of dogfish were landed – John Coombs also caught a dover sole of 415grms.

All members enjoyed a calm, sunny day’s fishing.

After the weigh-in and prizes, a raffle and buffet was enjoyed by all at The Salthouse.

THERE was a low turnout of nine at Abbotsbury, due to a bitterly cold night with a gale force westerly wind which made the fishing very difficult, even with 7oz grip leads failing to keep baits hard on the bottom.

Phil Maggs did manage to catch a cod of 1,965grms and also a bass of 775grms.

Dogfish and whiting were also landed, but over the last 90 minutes the tide dropped and the fish disappeared.

RESULT

1 Phil Maggs (3,755grms, 1 cod, 1 bass, 1 dogfish, 2 whiting), 2 Simon Skinner (2,125grms, 3 dogfish 2 whiting), 3 Simon Bowditch (1,575grms, 2 dogfish 2 whiting).

Most species pool: Lea Windsor (3)

Heaviest fish pool: Phil Maggs, cod 1,965grms

FATHER and son Eddie and Ashley Painter took two of the top prizes on offer at West Bexington.

Plenty of whiting and dogfish were caught, but no whiting over 400grms were landed with mackerel strips proved lethal.

Just a few pout and one dab were also caught, probably due to the huge shoals of whiting. All members landed good amounts of whiting, which are great baked in the oven.

RESULT

1 Eddie Painter (6,075grms, 6 dogfish 6 whiting 2 pout), 2 Steve Harwood (5,890grms, 6 dogfish 6 whiting 1 pout 1 dab), 3 P J Wheeler (5,675grms, 6 dogfish, 6 whiting).

Heaviest Fish pool: P J Wheeler, dogfish 1,020grms

Most Species pool: Ashley Painter (3).
