Colson set to get nod for Farnborough
TALENTED youngster George Colson looks set to make his Blue Square Bet South debut for the Magpies today while Phil Simkin is expected to be back at the helm for the visit of Farnborough (3pm).
Assistant-manager Stuart Heath took charge of the team for Tues-day’s Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final defeat to Wimborne Town, Simkin having been on leave due to a family illness since the defeat to Sutton United.
Heath has several injury problems going into this afternoon’s game but he has indicated that Colson will get the nod after impressing in the defeat to Wimborne.
Colson and Dan Thompson, who is out today with a thigh strain, have both had their loan spells from Portsmouth extended by a month after originally joining in November.
“They’ve showed up well in training and they’ll have a second month with us,” said Heath. “Hopefully they can kick on and show their potential.
“When they came in we were in the middle of the cup games so we weren’t going to change the side too much.
“They’ve had to be patient and although George has lacked competitive games he really impressed me at Wimborne.
“He’s a good attacking midfielder and that is perhaps something we’ve been missing.
“George has put himself in contention for a place in the starting line-up against Farnborough.”
Meanwhile, Heath confirmed that Rico Wilson will need an operation on his ankle in the New Year as he bids to make his comeback following his time behind bars.
n The postponed game against Basing-stoke, which was due to be played on Tuesday, is now penned in for Tuesday, February 5 at 7.45pm.
