CHRIS Wilson is so desperate for tomorrow’s game at Holt United (2pm) to get the go- ahead that he would even be willing “to play it in a foot of snow”.

Portland United have played just two matches in the last month and it is clearly a cause for concern as they look to regain the Magna Dorset Premier League title, which they last won in 2008-09.

When asked for his thoughts on the possibility of a fixture pile-up at the end of the season, boss Wilson joked: “We are so desperate for the game to be on tomorrow I could even see myself parked up there tomorrow morning with a bucket of salt and an orange ball.

“We all want and need a game and, in all seriousness, it is getting a bit of a worry now.

“I was talking to officials at the club about it and we are already six games down on where we were this time last season in terms of the league campaign.

“The problem is at our standard of football there are very few teams that can play under floodlights and the last thing we want is a Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday scenario where we are trying to cram in all the games in the last few weeks of the season.

“There is no need to press the panic button just yet but I have to say I have never known anything like it – it’s just crazy.

“There are teams like Upwey & Broad-wey in the Dorset Senior League that have only played once in the last six or seven weeks, which is just incredible.

“It is no one’s fault but it is something that is very concerning for all clubs.”

The table-topping Blues currently sit one place above Holt on goal difference with two games in hand.

Going on to comment on the significance of tomorrow’s clash, Wilson added: “It is huge there is no doubt about that.

“If we can go there and get a positive result it would do us a huge favour and give us some breathing space but Holt will be fully aware of that.

“They are a tough nut to crack at the best of times but with that extra incentive it is clearly going to be a very tough game.”

Wilson also feels his side’s added experience could play a part in the clash. He went on to say: “Once you have won the league once, you can look back on it and draw on those experiences.

“We have players that can do that but Holt have not been in this position too many times before and that could well put extra pressure on them.”

Scott Henley will be hoping the game is on so he can finally complete the last game of his suspension while Ryan Mc-Kechnie, Richard Marshallsay, Carl Mutch and Adam Linaker are all unavailable.

Wilson said: “Scott is still suspended, Ryan and Richard are both on ops with the Marines in Snowdonia and Carl and Adam are out as well, but when you look at the squad we will be taking up there, it is still very strong.”

Chickerell United will also be in action tomorrow at home to Parley Sports (2pm) – weather permitting.

The Chickens will be without Jamie Sibley, Stewart Walbridge, Tom Peck, Dan Welch and Liam Beads for the clash but Maurice Welch is more concerned about the lack of matches recently.

He said: “There are going to be a lot of players missing over the next couple of weeks but that is the way it is and to be honest with all the postponements recently, we just want a game.

“Tomorrow is looking a concern already but all we can do is just wait and see. Hopefully we will get a run of games soon.”

Weymouth Reserves are also champing at the bit following more than a month without a match.

The Terras are due to travel to Tintinhull (2pm) and joint-boss Jake Richmond is confident his side can come away with something.

He said: “It’s been over a month now since we last played and everyone is gagging for a game. We have been training and that can get mundane when you’re not playing but it’s not been difficult to keep them interested.

“You’ve just got to mix training up sometimes.

“When we played them earlier in the season it was a really tight game, which we won 3-2 by scoring in the last few minutes.

“A draw would have been a fair result and if I was their manager I would have been gutted.

“If we play as well as we can, we can win. If we’re not on it and don’t go in with the right attitude we will get turned over.”

Louis Smith, Adam Frame, Jamie Perry, Liam Greatrex and Chris Povall will all miss the game for the Terras through suspension.

Meanwhile, Bridport Reserves are without a game tomorrow.
