BRENDON King would love nothing more than to put one over on the Robins this afternoon at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).

Weymouth and Frome have become fierce rivals over the past 18 months but it is the Somerset outfit that have enjoyed the upper hand in terms of results – a trend the Terras desperately want to buck.

In the last three meetings between the two sides, the Robins have picked up seven points and shut out the Terras on each occasion but the real reason for the ongoing animosity is what took place off the field on April 9 last year.

That day was supposed to be one of the proudest in Weymouth FC’s history but just moments after Nigel Biddlecombe had taken the momentous step of signing the club over to a community trust it descended into a nightmare.

Not only did Frome humiliate the Terras by picking up a 3-0 away win but ugly scenes between rival fans on the terraces led to much condemnation on both sides of the fence.

Due to that experience there will be segregation at today’s game, which promises to be a rip-roaring affair.

Weymouth boss King told Echosport: “We went up there earlier this season and got beat 2-0 when we really didn’t deserve it, so it is a big game for us, particularly with everything connected with it.

“We enjoyed a good winning run recently but things have not gone our way in the last few games and we need to get back to it.”

The Terras were overpowered in a 4-0 defeat against high-flying Leamington in midweek but King is confident his men will immediately bounce back.

He added: “We need to get that out of our systems quickly and there is no better way of doing that than having another game quite soon after.

“I am hoping for a positive response. I asked a few questions of the players after Tuesday’s game and I am sure they will react in the right way.”

Scott Walker is still out for the Terras with a knee problem and there also doubts surrounding the fitness of Mark Ford, who is struggling with a hand injury.

However, the biggest concern could yet be the weather after a deluge of snow covered the playing surface yesterday morning.

King said: “We are just going to have to wait and see on that.

“The snow is bound to make the pitch wet and if a bit of rain follows it then it could well put the game in doubt.

“We also have to take the safety around the ground into consideration in terms of how slippery the terraces are and things like that, and the other big question is will the weather stop Frome from travelling?

“There are a lot of factors to take into account but fingers crossed it will be okay.”

* Grant Neven will hold a bucket collection at today’s game to raise funds for Cricket Without Boundaries.

The Portland Red Triangle stalwart has volunteered to travel to Uganda next month to help educate and empower the local communities there and is grateful for any donations.

The Weymouth FC Suppor-ters Association have invited Neven to the game as their latest community guest.

* Several local games have already been postponed including Yeovil’s clash against Preston North End at Huish Park and Chickerell United’s encounter against Parley at Weymouth College.

All the games scheduled to take place at Redlands over the weekend have also been called off.
