WEYMOUTH Golf Club is celebrating after gaining the GolfMark Higher Achiever accreditation and being nominated for the Club of the Year award for its innovative contribution to golf for juniors and beginners.

Huge efforts to earn the GolfMark award were made by club president Dave Baker, who correlated and updated all the relevant information, and Des Lochrie and Luke Bartlett for their work within local schools and with the juniors.

Out on the course, Alan Winter was the winner of the first competition of 2013 with victory in the winter medal thanks to an impressive nett score of 64, beating Alun Rose on countback.

Paul Dagger, Paul Green, Alan Reeve, Andy Turrell and Graham Vile shared third place with a nett round of 68 points.

An excellent score of 43 points was good enough to give Julie King and Maria Woodham the ladies’ greensome, making it a wonderful start to the season for the section.

Second place went to Jean Vile and Jane Harries with 33 points with Laura Johnson and Jackie Taylor finishing third with 32.
