THE Wey Valley School & Sports College cycle team came away victorious from the Dorset Schools Mountain Bike Championships at Moors Valley Park.

The event, which was organised by The Grange School and British Cycling, consisted of a female and male individual sprint, an endurance race, a cyclo cross race and a team relay.

The route had been planned by British Cycling and it was a technical, tight course with slippery tree roots to negotiate.

The Wey Valley Wheeler Bike Club team consisted of a squad of 12 riders, six males and six females, who have been training since September. It also included two British Cycling track cyclists in Matthew Mildon and Rebecca Raybould.

For the third year running Wey Valley won the team event with Cara Jones winning the female division ahead of Raybould and Mildon dominating the male section ahead of Alex Joliffe.

The racing was very well organised and all the young students enjoyed a great day’s riding.

The Wey Valley Wheelers Bike team is now planning to enter the South West Mountain Bike XC Series and is looking forward to the Dorset Schools Track Cycling Competition in the spring.
