MOONFLEET overcame Bridport in a County Mixed League fixture with their home rink of Jill Poulter, Sheila Goddard, Colin Poulter and skip Mike Goddard taking on K Gentry’s quartet.

The Goddard quartet moved into a useful 14-4 lead after 10 ends and maintained control to ease to a worthy 27-11 victory.

The four of Mairi Mathie, Sheila Escott, Ray Walbridge and skip Jack Mathie took on Bridport’s Gill Hunt, Jenny Harong, Peter Hunt and skip Derek Harp with the Mathie rink taking a 12-5 lead after nine ends.

The Harp quartet then fought back, reducing the deficit to just one shot by the 12th end.

However, the Mathie rink responded by winning seven out of the last nine ends to record a 24-16 win.

Moonfleet’s away rink of Mary Bull, Pete White, Mary Corben and skip StJ Corben met Rose Everest, Mary Marsh, Chris Everest and skip Brian Morgan with the Morgan four moving into a handy 20-10 lead after 15 ends.

The Corben rink then staged a remarkable fight back, winning the six remaining ends to snatch a commendable 25-20 victory.

The away foursome of Liz Laidlaw, Anne White, John Warner and skip Ashley Welsh took on Bridport’s Beryl Stork, Brian Pratt, Millie Melon and skip Max Dare and, in a tight contest, the scores were level at 14 shots apiece after 14 ends.

The Dare quartet then made a decisive move, winning the next five ends to open up a five-shot lead and just held on to take the victory, 19-17.

MOONFLEET LADIES B 49 BRIDPORT LADIES B 38

THE ladies of Moonfleet beat their Bridport counterparts in a Dorset League clash.

Monique Gandy, Judy Why, Sue Trott and skip June Chessell took on Bridport’s Beryl Stork, C Minas, M Marsh and skip J Tattersahall with the Chessell quartet racing into a 21-9 lead after 16 ends.

The Tattershall rink then staged a mini recovery, but the deficit proved too great and the Fleet four took the victory, 24-16.

Moonfleet’s other rink of Sue Whitehead, Mary Corben, Heather Gillingham and skip Liz Williams faced R Wilton, J Higman, A Parkins and skip M Eastman with the latter dominating the first 15 ends taking a 22-11 lead.

The Williams quartet then turned the game on its head by winning seven out of the last eight ends to claim a remarkable 25-22 victory.

MOONFLEET LADIES C 26 ISLE OF PURBECK LADIES 50

MOONFLEET Ladies were sunk by the Isle of Purbeck in the Dorset League.

Glynis Thorn, Kathy Cody, Ann Jones and skip Ruby Spavins took on M Love, M Highland, J Smooker and skip V Keats and a tight contest ensued with the Keats quartet taking a 15-10 lead after 12 ends.

The Spavins rink then raised their game, winning seven out of the last nine ends, including a two off the final end, to claim a worthy 19-19 draw.

Moonfleet’s Jean Lucas, Gay Hardy, Sheila Escott and skip Carole Venton faced S Davies-Colley, M Carey, J Thomas and M Bayley with the latter racing into 16-2 lead after 10 ends and they

Tdominated throughout to win the game 31-7.

DORCHESTER LADIES A 31 MOONFLEET LADIES A 36

THERE was a superb victory for Moonfleet Ladies after they triumphed at Dorchester.

Margaret Hooper, Anne White, Margaret Crawford and skip Kath Desmond took on Dorchester’s J Corbin, C Baker, J Flatters and skip I Addison and, in a tight contest, the Addison quartet took a handy 14-7 lead after 15 ends.

Despite a fight back from the Desmond rink, the win still looked to be going to the home team but a remarkable finish by the Fleet rink, who took a five and a four off the last two ends, earned them a startling 21-18 win.

The Moonfleet rink of Linda Bryson, Rita Payne, Thelma Nash and skip June Searle faced another tough contest against R Stevenson, E Pea-voy, B Wakely and skip J Trotman with the scores level at eight shots apiece after 11 ends.

There was still nothing between the two sides at 18 ends, but the Searle quartet took two out of the last three ends to edge home 15-13.
