WEYMOUTH LADIES 1 CITY OF BATH 2

WEYMOUTH battled bravely but they came up just short against top-of-the-table City of Bath.

The hosts started brightly with Wendy Butcher narrowly missing a penalty corner strike and Emily Sauven firing a shot wide.

But they did take the lead when some excellent team play produced a reverse stick goal from Emily Austin – the first Bath have conceded all season.

Despite continually testing the Bath keeper throughout the second half the Weymouth ladies were unable to get a second.

And that proved costly as the visitors, top of the East Division by some way, levelled the match before finding a winning goal with only four minutes left.

It was still a great display from Weymouth who took a lot of heart from pushing the league leaders so close.

POOLE 3 WEYMOUTH LADIES II 1

POOLE completed the Channel Division Two double over Weymouth largely thanks to two quickfire second half goals.

The visitors were put under a lot of pressure in the first period but the defence, in particular Alex Hearn and Olivia Culbreth, dealt with numerous short corners without conceding.

On the brink of half time a beautiful stretch of play developed through Carter-Miles, who crossed the ball into the D where Canaven was waiting.

She flicked the ball onto Dewey but unfortunately she shot just wide of the target in her first match back from injury.

Before Weymouth could get into their stride in the second half Poole quickly struck with two goals, both coming from short corners.

Weymouth recovered and some lovely link-up play between the dynamic duo of Carter-Miles and Dewey saw the visitors pulled back a textbook goal to make it 2-1.

Unfortunately for Weymouth, Poole went on to score a third before the end of play to complete a 3-1 victory.
