POSTPONEMENTS are crippling the Bees, according to club chairman Adrian Scadding.
Bridport have played just nine times at St Mary’s Field this season and the lack of income has hit the club hard.
Their latest setback came on Sat-urday when a waterlogged pitch put paid to their game against Brisling-ton, which means they now have to wait until February 9 before their next home clash.
Scadding said: “All these postponements are just crippling us at the moment. In fact, I have never known a season like it.
“We have been working really hard to get match sponsors on board to try and get a bit of money in but the games just keep getting called off – it’s a nightmare.”
He went on to add: “It all started off with the big flood we had in the clubhouse back in pre-season.
“You see, we usually have functions on most Saturdays during the summer and the fact we lost two or three months of those was a real blow.
“Add to that all these games being called off and it has just become extremely frustrating for everyone.
“So far we have only played seven home games in the league, which is just crazy, and at this rate we are going to be playing two games a week right up to the end of the season.”
Scadding particularly sympathises with boss Trevor Senior and his players, who have seen action just once in the last six weeks.
He said: “Trevor is particularly frustrated and I feel for him and the players I really do, but there is nothing anyone can do about it.
“All we can do is rally round as a club and try and work our way through it. We had a meeting with Trevor and obviously had to cut his money.
“He offered to leave if it would help but I was never going to let that happen.
“He was so good about it all and the aim now is just to stay up and look to build again for next season, which surely won’t be any tougher than this one.”
The Bees now face successive away games at Radstock Town this Saturday and Odd Down next Tuesday.
Senior’s men currently sit 18th in the Toolstation Western Premier Division, just two points above the bottom two.
