MOONFLEET marched into the next round of the Leonard Denny National Trophy with this impressive win over Bournemouth.

Leading the way was the away rink of Keith Wyman, Pete Read, Doug Rumble and skip Steve Gait, who took on K Philip, B Lemar, B Frith and skip P Ward.

The Gait quartet, showing good form, eased into a 14-5 lead after 10 ends and always controlled the game to eventually run out 23-15 winners.

Fleet’s home four of Chris Cook, Ron McCarthy, Mike Gale and skip Martin Puckett faced a tougher task against D McKenna, P Parkes, T Chivers and skip B Paulley and in a tight game the scores were level at seven apiece after 11 ends.

The Paulley rink then edged ahead and with four ends to play still held a one-shot lead but the Puckett quartet finished the stronger, winning three out of the last four ends to take a hard-fought 17-14 victory.

THE ladies of Moonfleet edged out Dorchester in a Dorset League derby clash.

The Kay rink then upped their game, winning 10 out of the last 13 ends to record a 25-13 victory.
