Richmond: Terras should have hammered them

JAKE Richmond was not entirely happy with his side’s showing against the Hammers.

The joint-boss felt his Ter-ras were below par for much of the encounter and should have won the game by a more convincing margin.

Speaking after the Magna Dorset Premier League contest at the Bob Lucas Stadium, Richmond told Echosport: “We should have won it by seven or eight.

“We didn’t play well but we still created 10 or 11 chances and should have put the game to bed a lot earlier.

“The performance was just not good enough for me and for much of it we were off the pace.

“A 3-2 win looks good but we should have been out of sight.

“Instead we went long far too often, didn’t close down well enough and squandered a lot of good opportunities.

“Considering we had seven players under-20 in the starting line-up perhaps I am being a little harsh but if these boys want to progress they need to be doing better.

“Had we been up against one of the better sides in the league then we would have probably lost.”

Tom Bell had an effort disallowed for offside before Matt Morley opened the scoring on 17 minutes by cutting inside and curling a wonderful shot inside the far post.

Suspect defending then allowed Hamworthy United Reserves to equalise through a tremendous finish from Tim Corby, but Wey-mouth soon got their noses in front again when Bell reacted quickest to a rebound just before half-time.

The same player then made it 3-1 after the break but poor finishing from the home side then allowed the Hammers to get back into it with Lee Thomas pulling one back on 89 minutes.

Despite that setback, Wey-mouth went on to see out the rest of the game with very little fuss but on another day they might have been punished.

The Terras have now won their last four in all competitions and currently sit eighth in the table.

Terras: Povall, Harvey, Doidge, Sharpe, Brown, Morley, Beals (Smith 75), Winsper, Zima, Sanchez (Hind 70), Bell (Frame 83). Sub not used: Taylor.
