IN SYNC: Step in time at the Saturday club
WEY Valley Recreational Gymnastics Club’s popular Saturday course has proved to be a big success yet again.
A number of children have achieved the British Gymnastics Proficiency Award certificate for their skills and techniques during the spring term.
And participation levels at the Wey Valley School club have gone some way to showing the effect the 2012 Olympics has had on the sport at a community level.
Organiser Don Whistance said: “The course allows the children of all abilities to experience a variety of gymnastic moves using a range of small apparatus such as hoola hoops, ribbons, skipping ropes and small balls alongside the use of benches, vaulting boxes, floor and spring boards.
“Children have concentrated this term on planning, performing and assessing their own sequence and tumbling work.”
Young gymnasts have come from Dorchester, Portland, Weymouth and the surrounding areas to take part and ranged in age from five to 13.
They have been superbly coached by Lisa Potter, Jenny Richardson, Abbie Allgood, Eloise Read, Jamie-Lee Sewell, Jessica Prior, Jaz Norman and Katie Gosling.
