We did not capitulate – Brendon
BRENDON King watched his side’s 2-1 half-time lead evaporate as the Terras suffered a 5-2 mauling at Testwood Park but the Weymouth boss was adamant his side did not capitulate with just 30 minutes left to play.
A bewildered King said: “We were brilliant in the first half and quite outstanding for the first hour.
“To be fair we should have been 2-0 to the good at the break as we were well worth it and their first goal was well offside.
“In fact, I wish we hadn’t had a half-time because I would never have believed we would go on to lose 5-2 – not in a month of Sundays.
“We were playing some lovely stuff at times and then Danny Clay gives away a silly free-kick after we had warned them not to give away anything in stupid areas.
“Well we know what Ryan (Hill) can do and it’s flown in from 25 yards. Then all of a sudden we are 3-2 down as they have found the top corner with a cross really and we have then got to chase it.”
Although the Terras pushed on and created several more chances without scoring, King was bitterly disappointed how his charges conceded the fourth and fifth goals and he was apologetic to the travelling fans for the last 15 minutes.
He said: “We have to say sorry to the fans for the way we conceded two late goals but we were bound to leave gaps at the back going forward looking to get back in the game.
“They’ve really hit us but to be fair 5-2 has flattered them and we didn’t deserve that at all. Apart from the goals Simon (Evans) has made just one save in each half and it could easily have been 5-5 with the chances we had.
“I will just have to pick the boys up for the visit of Bed-worth on Saturday where I hope we can play just like we did for the first 65 minutes last night.”
