SNOOKER’S current world number one Mark Selby is in town tomorrow night and there is still a chance to see the ‘Jester from Leicester’ in action.
The reigning UK and Masters champion is the star name at Snookes in Weymouth as he follows in the footsteps of Steve Davis, John Parrott and Dennis Taylor to give exhibitions at the club.
The 29-year-old starts his Welsh Open campaign in Newport on Monday but first of all he is set for a busy night in Dorset.
He will play frames against six Snookes club members, two lucky people drawn from the crowd and Echo competition winner Barry Webb, pictured with Snookes owner Mark Cottingham.
The retired civil servant, 67, has been a member at Snookes for two years and has played the game, on and off, for two decades.
“When I entered the Echo competition I didn’t expect to win – it’s fantastic,” said Webb.
“I try and play as regularly as I can, normally two or three times a week, but the frame could be over in about three minutes.
“I always wanted to play Steve Davis but the opportunity never arose so this is great.”
Cottingham added: “It’s all building up for a very good evening. It has raised a lot of interest and should be a great night.
“Mark is looking forward to coming down and he’s never been to Weymouth before.
“He’s been speaking to Steve Davis who has given him a bit of the lowdown on Weymouth.
“There are still tickets available if people want to come and they can get them from the club before or on the door tonight.”
Tickets are £20 and doors open at the Caroline Place venue at 6.30pm for a 7.30pm start.
