UPDATE: Terras out to topple Cambridge

THE Terras could find themselves in a play-off position by Saturday evening though the team standing in their way this weekend currently occupy the position they are gunning for.

Weymouth go to Cambridge City in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division (3pm) on the back of two consecutive home wins which have reignited their promotion chances.

The game comes too soon for Scott Walker (knee) but assistant-manager Matt Groves reckons the club captain could be back for next Wednesday’s trip to Kettering Town.

Groves recognises the importance of Saturday's encounter and is more than happy to be talking about the play-offs even though he insists the squad is taking it a week at a time.

“It’s a really big game and when you look at the table a win would see us go ahead of them,” he told Echosport.

“But it’s going to be very difficult because they’ve got an experienced team, home advantage and are in the play-offs regularly.

“We know exactly how they are going to play so we need to work hard and playing 3-5-2 teams find it hard to break us down.

“We’ll go there with confidence after two wins and although we weren’t at our best in the second half of either game, we hung on for victory and showed a bit of resilience.

“Last season or even before Christmas we probably wouldn’t have held on.”

He added: “I think that with the way the league is it’s about taking things week by week.

“If you win you can be looking at the play-offs but if you lose you’ll drop back to 10th so it’s about whoever can show some consistency.”

Groves also feels that not much has altered in the way the Terras have played in their last two outings as they ended a spell of five fixtures without a win.

“I don’t think a lot has changed,” he admitted. “We dug in for a draw against Gosport, Leamington are the best team in the league and we could have easily won the other three.

“Our last two wins have been at home against teams near the bottom and we’ve had that extra bit of quality.”
