PETER Wilson has confirmed that he will be bidding to retain his Olympic title in 2016.

Since striking gold in the double trap in London last summer, the Dorchester-born shooter has been considering his options but a trip to Rio in three years’ time is now clearly at the forefront of his mind.

Announcing his decision on Twitter, Wilson said: “After a lengthy lay off I am delighted to announce my determination to compete in Rio.

“The last six months have been incredible and the Olympics completely changed my life.

“With the help of my family, Ahmed Al Maktoum, Holland & Holland, Gleneagles and UK Sport, I hope to be in even better shape both physically and mentally in the future.”

He went on to say: “The International Shooting Sports Federation implemented a new set of rules for double trap on January 1.

“The discipline has changed radically which both excites and intrigues me.

“This could not have come at a better time in my competitive career.”
