TROPHY TIME: Weymouth Angling Society club chairman Billy Short and Phil Cheeseman, the longest-serving committee member, with a fine haul from the annual awards night
YOUNGSTER Ryan Casey landed a big haul of prizes at Weymouth Angling Society’s annual awards night, claiming no fewer than seven junior accolades.
There were also plenty of reasons to cheer for club chairman Billy Short and longest-serving committee member Phil Cheeseman, who were both multiple winners on the night.
The Ian Legg Memorial Trophy was proudly presented by his son Tom Legg to Team Mafia for the most species of fish caught in a monthly team league meeting.
Meanwhile, the prestigious Short and Norcott Trophy, awarded for an outstanding act of angling by a junior, went to Nina Frapple after she landed a British record yellow-headed goby.
Ray Banham, deputy mayor for Weymouth and Portland, handed out the awards on the night in what was another successful event for the society. A full list of winners can be found at weymouthangling society.com
