Slick Weymouth see off Frome
FROME TOWN LADIES 0 WEYMOUTH LADIES 2
WEYMOUTH Ladies gave a thoroughly professional performance to secure another valuable three South West League Premier Division points when they beat Frome Town at the Aldersmith Stadium.
With the hosts expected to provide the visitors with a stern test, Weymouth manager Tim Davis brought in young keeper Natalie Howes to replace the unavailable Eloise Adams and slightly changed the formation to 4-1-3-2 with Zoe Acutt being employed in a defensive midfield role in front of the back four.
On a perfect pitch, Weymouth soon settled into their passing game and the midfield three of Georgia Rogers, Jess Turk and skipper Rosie Sharpe bossed the centre of the park.
Last season’s leading scorer Philippa Holden was partnered up front by Bryony Webb who was playing in an unfamiliar position, as she had been switched from her usual left wing role and they were causing the home defence a multitude of problems with their pace and movement.
It came as no surprise when the visitors finally got their noses in front after 25 minutes when Webb ran on to a through ball and finished calmly with her left foot.
Within 10 minutes, it was 2-0 as in an almost carbon-copy, this time Holden raced through and finished beautifully but this time with her right foot.
The Weymouth back four of Molly Tighe, Sam-antha Johnson, Karen Perkins and Elle Saunders were in total control and defended resolutely on the odd occasion they were called into action.
At half-time, Ella Walmsley, Charlie Wilson and Shannon Peaty entered the fray and Weymouth still maintained total dominance to such an extent that Frome never managed one shot on goal for the whole of the 90 minutes.
All in all, this was a tremendous away performance that sees Weymouth remain in third position in the league table.
With a week off, Weymouth return to action on March 3, when they entertain Stoke Lane at the Bob Lucas Stadium with a 2pm kick-off.
