WIMBORNE TOWN 1

THE thoughts of everyone at the Terras were with Kyle Critchell tonight after the midfielder was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.

Weymouth’s 1-0 defeat, which also saw defender Ed Palmer sent off, was virtually irrelevant as the injury to Critchell overshadowed the Dorset Senior Cup semi-final at Hamworthy’s County Ground.

The Terras had just conceded midway through the second half when a Wimborne player attempted to tackle Critchell from behind but only succeeded in leaving the playmaker in agony on the ground.

It is understood that a second ambulance was called when the first hadn’t arrived nearly half an hour after being sent for.

“The result doesn’t matter in a situation like this, we’re just thinking about Kyle,” Terras’ boss Brendon King told Echos-port as Critchell was about to be rushed to hospital.

“It was a shocking tackle on him and it’s an embarrassment all round that the referee only thought it was a yellow card and didn’t send the Wimborne player off.

“It was a tackle from behind on the back of the leg and the referee bottled it.

“Kyle was in an awful lot of pain and it was a nightmare of a night all round with Ed Palmer getting sent off for a shoulder to shoulder on the edge of the box.

“Sometimes these games are more trouble than they are worth.”

King confirmed that Palmer will now miss the trip to Hitchin in the league on Saturday.

He added: “The pitch was awful but they deserved to win the game, I haven’t got any qualms about that.”

Wimborne will now face Poole Town in the final after they beat Gillingham Town 4-1 on Tuesday night.
