MARATHON MAN: Nathan Wood taking on the Blackmore Vale Half Marathon
NATHAN Wood is holding a ‘Las Vegas Style’ Casino Night at Weymouth Angling Club this Saturday as part of his fundraising efforts for the London Marathon.
Wood is running for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and is currently training with ex-Weymouth star Andy Harris, who is also taking on the challenge in aid of the NSPCC.
He told Echosport: “I am running to support Weldmar Hospicecare Trust in memory of my late father-in-law John Fleuret and my nan Barbara Penny, who recently died of mesothelioma, an asbestos-related cancer and stomach cancer respectively.
“Weldmar Hospicecare Trust is an independent charity working in Dorset. All their services are provided free of charge and 75 per cent of the funds they need are raised locally – the rest is given by the NHS.
“They are also the only agency providing specialist palliative care in North, South and West Dorset.
“My fundraising target is £2,400 and so far I have taken part in the Dumble Bimble 5k on Portland and the Blackmore Vale Half Marathon as part of my training. I am also due to compete in the Brooks Fleet Half Marathon on March 17.
“Andy and I are hoping to complete the London Marathon in four hours.”
Entry to the Casino Night, which starts at 7.30pm, is £15 each and includes canapés on arrival, a buffet dinner, live entertainment and a disco.
Wood is also holding a Marlboro Golf Society Charity Day at the Dorset Golf & Country Club on April 18.
Tickets are £35 per person and £140 per four-man team, and they include a baguette and coffee on arrival, team and individual competitions, a steak and ale pie dinner, and a presentation ceremony.
Tickets for both events can be purchased from the Marlboro Restaurant in Weymouth or by calling Nathan on 07588828229.
