THE Yacht Clubs of Weymouth (YCW) have been presented with London 2012 Olympic legacy equipment.

Tim Hall, the Royal Yachting Association competition manager, handed over the set of championship race marks at the YCW Commodores’ meeting held at Castle Cove Sailing Club (CCSC).

YCW is the umbrella organisation including CCSC, Royal Naval Sailing Association (RNSA), Royal Dorset Yacht Club (RDYC), Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association (WPCA) and Weymouth Sailing Club (WSC).

The first event likely to use the marks will be an RS700 and RS800 open meeting at CCSC, closely followed by a training weekend again at CCSC for junior Topper sailors from across the South West.

The marks will have a busy year with the Moth Nationals at CCSC, Osprey Nationals at WSC, the Weymouth Regatta and the various other open and cup events planned this season.

Many of the volunteers that helped make the Olympic and Paralympic sailing a great success were drawn from the clubs and the gift is in part recognition of the role they played, and continue to play, in helping run national events like Sail for Gold.
