Bees looking to sting the Larks

BRIDPORT are proving tough nuts to crack at the moment and on Saturday they will be going all out to bring Larkhall Athletic’s run of six consecutive league wins to an abrupt halt.

The Larks last dropped a point on December 15 and should prove difficult opposition for the Bees at St Mary’s Field (3pm), but the hosts are more than capable of going toe-to-toe with the side in seventh.

Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Barnstaple saw the Bees move out of the bottom three in the Toolstation Western Premier Division and boss Trevor Senior has Sam Filkins, Russell Legg, Max Buckler and Dean Ritchie available after they missed the midweek triumph.

Jamie Filkins also sat out the Barnstaple victory through illness but he should also be back to full fitness with Senior looking to make a couple of changes to his line-up.

Bridport are unbeaten in five and have lost just once in the last eight and with Ben Clarke among the goals alongside the prolific Ryan Dovell, the Bees’ chances of avoiding the drop are improving all the time.

Senior told Echosport: “When we were 3-0 up on Tuesday it was the first time we had been in that position for a few months.

“We’ve just got to carry that on now but it will be a different proposition on Saturday.

“Larkhall are a good side and playing really well but we went to their place earlier in the season and drew 3-3 so we’ve shown we can match them.

“We are playing with confidence now and scoring first makes a big difference.”

The form of Ben Clarke is also something Senior is happy with, adding: “Scoring a couple on Tuesday will do him a world of good.

“He has worked hard all season and he tells me that whenever he has started for us we’ve never lost – that will probably be the kiss of death.

“For a big lad his heading has not been the strongest part of his game but he has worked on it and scored two headers against Barnstaple.”
