TERRAS: Slick Weymouth chalk up second win

THE Terras chalked up a second successive league victory at the Bob Lucas Stadium last night courtesy of goals from Sam Poole and Stewart Yetton.
Frome have often been a bogey side for Weymouth in the past but on this occasion the hosts were just too strong and on another day might have scored a couple more.
With Simon Evans, Michael Walker, Kyle Critchell and Jamie Symes still out, Brendon King chose to the stick with the same starting XI that opened the campaign with a 2-0 win at St Neots on Saturday.
Forward Ben Joyce continued in the middle of midfield alongside Danny Clay while summer signings Jason Matthews, Nathan Walker, Luke Burbidge, Yetton and Ben Wood all made their home debuts.
The visitors, who drew 0-0 at home to Cambridge City at the weekend, made just one change with new forward Ryan Charles replacing the injured Kurt Hammond.
The game started at a frantic pace until a sickening collision just prior to the minute mark saw Frome midfielder Matt Smith collide with the stone wall next to the away dugout.
The impact initially knocked him unconscious and the officials quickly brought the game to a halt to allow medical staff to tend to the stricken player.
Matt Smith eventually came round but after sustaining such a serious blow to the head, as well as a knee injury, an ambulance was called and he was soon on his way to hospital.
The incident caused a 30-minute delay to proceedings and when play did resume Ben Thomson was the man to come off the Robins’ bench.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the substitute only lasted 10 minutes before picking up a knock which eventually saw him replaced by Brandon Mundy as Frome’s troubles continued to deepen.
Sensing an opportunity to strike the Terras immediately picked up the pace with Scott Walker firing a free-kick against the crossbar, but despite enjoying a decent period of pressure they were unable to carve out any further openings.
In fact, as the half wore on, the Robins started to gain in confidence with Luke Ballinger driving in a shot from 20 yards that Matthews managed to gather at the second attempt.
It remained nip and tuck until the 38th minute when another fine free-kick from Walker finally set up the opening goal. The out-swinging cross caused confusion in the Frome box and when the ball dropped at the far post there was Poole to head home.
Being on top, half-time appeared to come at the wrong time for the Terras but just six minutes into the second period they doubled their lead.
This time Frome substitute Johnny Lynn got caught in possession by Mark Ford and when the ball broke there was Yetton to open his account for the club from 15 yards.
Ballinger and Bryan Smith both fired aimlessly wide in response but the Terras continued to look in control and went close again on 66 minutes when Nathan Walker’s drive was beaten away by the legs of Chitty.
Ford then miscued after great work from Burbidge before Chitty made two more fine saves to deny Yetton as the hosts searched for a killer third.
It never came but the Robins hardly threatened either as the Terras saw out the remaining minutes with ease to secure a second clean sheet on the spin, and more importantly another three points.
