FOOTBALL: Contrasting fortunes for Terras and Magpies
THERE were contrasting fortunes yet again for Weymouth and Dorchester Town last night.
While the Terras backed up their victory over St Neots with another three points at home to Frome Town, the Magpies slipped to a second successive defeat, this time against Weston-super-Mare.
Goals from Sam Poole and Stewart Yetton secured the win for the Terras in the Calor Southern Premier Division clash at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Weymouth boss Brendon King said: “We thoroughly deserved it.
“Our work-rate was brilliant again but even though we did well, I also think we can play better.
“To score two goals again and keep another clean sheet is fantastic and the boys are buzzing.
“However, like I said on Saturday, it’s just a start because this is a marathon, not a sprint.”
As for the Magpies, they conceded two penalties in their reverse at home to Weston.
Keeper Tim Sandercombe gave away the first – he did the same at Staines – and captain Mark Jermyn the second.
The hosts did have chances to draw level when they were a goal down and that is what annoyed boss Phil Simkin the most.
“It was like last Saturday,” he said. “We missed chance after chance and the longer we didn’t score the more chance there was of them breaking away.
“They got out of the blocks pretty quickly but it didn’t really look like we were in any great danger until the penalty.
“If we had scored at 1-0 down it was anybody’s game but we didn’t and they got a second.”
