MAGPIES: Simkin calls for more of the same
PHIL Simkin has challenged the Magpies to continue the form they showed at Gosport Borough.
Monday’s draw at Privett Park handed Dorchester their first point of the season and they were perhaps unfortunate not to claim all three.
The performance certainly pleas-ed the club’s manager but he knows his side will have to raise their game again this weekend in order to build on the result.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s Skrill South clash against Ebbsfleet United at the Avenue Stadium (3pm), Simkin told Echosport: “We played well up at Gosport and perhaps deserved to win it, so the aim now is to try and build on that.
“We have got a few walking wounded including Mark Jermyn (pictured) but Arr-an Pugh is back and we may have another loan player in too.
“We will look at how we set up a bit closer to the game.
“Charlie Clough played up front in a 3-5-2 system at Gosport and it worked well but Ebbsfleet have some good wide players and we need to be wary of that.”
Commenting further on the Fleet, Simkin added: “They are really going for it this year and have made some good signings.
“On paper they look very strong but if we can put in a similar performance as we did on Monday then we will stand every chance.”
Despite having splashed the cash this summer the Fleet currently sit just two points above the second-bottom Magpies in 16th spot. Their opening four games have included a trio of draws and a narrow 2-1 defeat at Dover Athletic.
