RUGBY: Dorchester hosts summer camp scrum down

THREE experienced rugby coaches from the southern hemisphere put youngsters through their paces during a successful summer camp at Coburg Road.
Thirty-two children took part in the sessions which ran for a week and concluded with a performance of the Haka and a match that attracted a good crowd of parents and club members.
Dorchester RFC junior chairman Dave Cheeseman said: “It was a really big success. Thirty-two children, aged six to 15, took part in the camp with the coaches from the southern hemisphere putting on sessions using their experience in rugby.
“It proved a really good set-up for the youngsters and culminated in a fun event which saw them play a game and perform the Haka to their parents.
“The majority of the children involved were existing club players along with a few from other clubs from different areas.
“There were also two that have just started playing rugby this season so there was a really good mix.
“They certainly all seemed to enjoy themselves and it is definitely something we will look to run again next year.”
Any youngsters interested in trying rugby are invited to attend the club’s junior sessions which take place at Coburg Road every Sunday from 10am.
